
David Conrad and Rebecca Weiner Tompkins began performing as Conrad y Skordalia in 2012 in New York City. They have based in Nashville since 2017, and perform regularly as acoustic duo and full electric band. Their music blends rock, country/folk and soul with Celtic and Arabic music, jazz and classical, and cinematic lyrics.
David Conrad (voice, guitar, bass, oud) got an intensive education in songwriting over four decades as a bassist accompanying great singers, writers and bands including Phoebe Snow, Solomon Burke, Tom Rush, Chuck Berry, Dave Van Ronk, Orphan, Rufus Thomas, Sylvain Sylvain, Jonathan Edwards, Marc Ribot, David Johansen, Black 47, Hank Thompson, Darlene Love, and Delbert McClinton. He currently records and performs with Davis Raines and the Band of a Thousand Names, Gina Sicilia Siracuse, and other Nashville-based artists.
Rebecca Weiner Tompkins (violin, voice), is also a member of Life in a Blender and Maynard and the Musties, and has recorded and performed with Patti Smith, Mark Huff, Luke Powers, Afton Wolfe, Julie Christensen, Chuck Mead, Jim Malone and The Piney Hearts, Emily Duff, Scott McClatchy, Sergio Webb, Ricko Donovan, Tom Mason and the Blue Buccaneers, Alex Sniderman, The Nu-Sonics, John Egenes, Chief, The Sometime Boys, Karen and The Sorrows, The Menthol Kings, Chris Rael, Stellan Wahlstrom, Mark Donato's Canoeful of Strangers, Standpipe, Ian Roure, Eddie Skuller, Zane Campbell, Stanley Keach and Bluegrassachusetts, The Ming Dynasty Ramblers, and The Tuna Canyon Boys among many others. In 2019 her poetry collection, King of the Fireflies, was published by Sensitive Skin Press.
Conrad y Skordalia's first album, A Silo Filled With Birds, released in 2016, was co-produced by David Conrad and J.D. Foster, recorded in New York City, and includes performances by Marc Ribot, Todd Turkisher, and others. Their second, The Moment Before Waking, was recorded in Nashville, released December 2021. Their newest, Wild Territory, co-produced by David Conrad and Dave Coleman and released March 28, 2025, is a collection of songs about venturing into unknown landscapes: in the world and in the heart.
